Critics Consensus

Lucifer's final season may not earn it any new converts, but by balancing character development with the show's unique brand of levity it's bound to satisfy fans.

Critic Reviews for Lucifer Season 5

All Critics (21) | Top Critics (1)

The first half of season five of Lucifer starts off making one of my personal dreams come true.

Sep 22, 2020 | Full Review…

Part of Lucifer's charm is it's always erred on the side of cheesy soap opera when it calls for it, but there are some real gut-punching, grounding moments this season.

Sep 4, 2020 | Rating: 4/5 | Full Review…

Lucifer has its funny moments, but Season 5 could absolutely have used a few more. Maybe God can keep Part 2 from dragging.

Sep 4, 2020 | Rating: 2/5 | Full Review…

The second half of the season couldn't get here fast enough.

Sep 4, 2020 | Rating: 4.5/5 | Full Review…

Overall, there is plenty of good stuff here, the show just requires what it always does - taking its humour with a pinch of salt and just strapping in to enjoy the ride.

Sep 4, 2020 | Rating: 3/5 | Full Review…

This season, really, is a love letter to the fans who kept the show alive and threw down over the possibility of it ending too soon. The Devil is back, baby, and he's gonna use that mojo on you.

Sep 4, 2020 | Full Review…

The first 8 episodes are a lot of fun, with some Big Moments we've all be waiting for (huzzah!) and some great meta work, particularly in the noir episode set in the 1940s.

Sep 4, 2020 | Full Review…

While Lucifer season 5 suffers from its fair share of shortcomings, the series remains entertaining and engaging.

Aug 31, 2020 | Full Review…

I always tried to argue the fact that Lucifer was more than a guilty pleasure show, but Season 5 is definitely more guilty than pleasure.

Aug 28, 2020 | Full Review…

It absolutely excels when it comes to character. There's so much focus on exploring and diving deeper into everyone during these eight episodes. Everyone gets more of a focus and a deeper arc; no one is pushed off to the sidelines.

Aug 26, 2020 | Rating: 3.75/5 | Full Review…

As fun as the show continues to be, it's marred by character arcs that refuse to go anywhere. None of its flashy musical numbers or talented cast members can save those damnable filler scenes from feeling like a chore.

Aug 25, 2020 | Full Review…

Maze's evolution on the show allows for some of its best moments, and Lucifer's stalwart refusal to allow Maze to become a one-dimensional background character is both strong and empathetic storytelling.

Audience Reviews for Lucifer: Season 5

One of my favorite serials, very unusual and interesting story about fallen angel (devil) and his earth problems such as love, defencelessness... Recommend it for all, who want to spend time with pleasant))

Past seasons were brilliant, this season is lack lustre and boring. Endless new characters popping up but going nowhere and the focus has switched from funny hedonism to interpersonal relationships with lots of annoying twinkly music (ALA Bones). This needs to be the last season as this series has been ruined.

The good news is the boring hell that was the Eve story arc died with season 4. The bad news is this show that I dearly loved in its earlier seasons has turned into complete and utter drivel that I've only kept watching because I've invested too much time to quit now

Love, love, loved the first four seasons of this show! The emotion and the storylines were amazing! Waiting over a year and a half for the 5th season my expectations were high…and then once the season aired I was kind of disappointed. The first eight episodes were slow and I really hate writing this review but I want to spread my opinion! They dragged out a few things (E.g, Chloe pushing Lucifer away YET again after they reunited, and this occurring for 2 episodes, meaning 2 hours) in those two hours they easily could've built up the story! They revealed two of the major characters before the season aired; *SPOILERS* That being God and Michael. (God would've been a surprise if you didn't follow any of the actors online!) Michael was revealed in the season trailer. I feel as if they could've kept one of the characters a surprise. In saying this, knowing that these characters were going to be in the season the surprise factor wasn't there. I feel as if some characters (Trixie) lacked screen time and character development in the first half. Trixie, for example, was in a small section of the first episode and then in the noir episode; In the noir episode we did see some character development but nothing much and I hope she's in the second half more! That and I feel like her character has been robbed. The reason why I love Lucifer is for his charming, and witty personality. That and he always has a Joke for something. I feel as if the first half lacked jokes and lacked Lucifers piano playing! Furthermore, I'm giving the first half a three-star rating as it wasn't all bad! There were some surprises, jokes etc… In saying all of this we have the second half + season 6 to grasp onto and not all has been revealed. The second half I have hope for. Lastly, I have to give props to the amazing acting! They cast this show brilliantly and it's going to be sad once it ends.

What happened to this show? If you take away the celestial stuff, this would become another csi tv show. And there is barely any celestial stuff. Only at ep 8.
  • Sep 16, 2020
As always, a perfect blend of action, drama, and irrelevance.

Let me say that I loved the show, now that this season has been taken over this is what I can say I didn't like about it. First episode, rubbish and underwhelming, like this is the first episode back! I'm full of adrenaline and that episode killed it, second episode i don't even remember anything about it, then there's an episode in black and white and I know they were trying to pull off an older time but honestly, i skipped to the next episode it was so boring and just toooo damn slow. I'm now watching the last episode of season 5 eps.8 part 1, this is the first decent episode sooo I hope that it goes the hell up from here because the other episodes didn't really go anywhere, was wayyyyy too slow and the fact I had to skip an episode was concerning pleaseeeee make part 2 awesome!
  • Sep 13, 2020
This season was filled more with action and less crime than anything, which was a refreshing twist since the first 4 seasons were a bit slow for me. It was by far the best, most intense and dramatic season yet, and I can't wait to see what season 5 part 2 has to offer. Very excited!
  • Sep 10, 2020
I'm sorry. The moment Chole and Luci got together I was so happy. It made the whole season.
  • Sep 09, 2020
Season 5 feels like a cheap parody of the first 4 seasons, the romance is written to educate a 16 year old and the mystery is rediculous. The only good thing about this is Tom Ellis'performance and Lesley-Ann Brandt's acting.
